Too many functions that seem to be not organized. To be usable, the left and the top bar need to be reorganised and cleaned up. Maybe retroshare will be too complicated for them after all, but to me, retroshare seems too complicated even for the normal user right now. Took at least half an hour to explain "internet" (=firefox) to them (connect cable/connect to wireless - open browser (shortcut on desktop) - google=access to ebay and everything).
Retroshare review how to#
I do not see how I could teach my 60 to 70 year old family members how to use this programm.
Retroshare review password#
I do not know if this dialog is for those people with an key-manager, but in this case, the hint that the password of the keymanager is needed could be in a dialog that pops up when one enters a wrong password.įirst: waaayyyy tooo much buttons/functions.Įven me had to dig into all this stuff sorting my brain what does what. Second: again: no-one knows anything about gpg and souch stuff. question mark is not good I think.Īfter creating an account one has to re-enter the password for "gpg-key"įirst: reentering password is ok but skipping this would be better (if possible). Unknown stuff and explanation they do not understand scares people! Mayby this text should be hidden in a box that pops up when one hovers over a questionmark or in expert-mode. Just a very few have heave heard about "gpg" and souch stuff. The explanation in the top is far to much info. The explanations that pops up when one howers the mouse over an objekt are good. But this should be in an other/preceded dialog. Maybe "make backup of account" and "restore backup" would be more self-explaining/known to those people. That way it is still available for powerusers but far away from being accessed by not-"experts". Such things should be hidden in an extra window being accessible with a button called "expert mode" or similar. Heaving no idea what that means, the people will klick it and get even more confused.

"import new identity"/"export selected identity": This will confuse the people. ( is just needed by those with more than one retroshare installation (maybe just in expert mode? (see below)). As an email is required, a fake email could be generated automatically that indicates that is is a fake email. everything fine.Īs I ofte help some (old) non-tech people with "computer-stuff", username and password are the only fields they can handle.Įmail? location?: this should be non-editable and greyed out by default beeing able to be activated by setting a marker on a field called something like "optional stuff". So lets see weather retroshare is ready to be used by non-tech users.ĭid not test windows, but on ubuntu its runs as expected.
